Sesko faces competition from Ollie Watkins if he doesn’t sign a Manchester United contract
Manchester United remain locked in negotiations to sign Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig, but could face late competition from Newcastle. As talks continue, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins has reportedly offered himself as a backup option to bolster United’s attack this summer.
According to The Sun, Watkins sees Manchester United as the ideal next step in his career. The England international is open to joining the club even if he is not the first-choice striker under manager Rúben Amorim.
Sesko Still the Top Target
United have made Šeško their top attacking priority and are reportedly prepared to offer players in exchange to sweeten a proposed deal worth €100 million. The 21-year-old scored 21 goals in 45 appearances last season, convincing Amorim he could be the answer to the club’s persistent issues in front of goal.
However, Newcastle United have entered the race with growing determination, potentially complicating United’s pursuit. Despite the competition, the Red Devils remain hopeful, banking on Šeško’s reported desire to join the Premier League giants.
Watkins as Plan B
Watkins, who netted 17 goals for Aston Villa last season under Unai Emery, is monitoring the situation closely. Though not United’s primary target, the striker’s willingness to join and accept a secondary role makes him a strong alternative if the Šeško deal collapses.
The 28-year-old is under contract at Villa but sees a move to Old Trafford as the perfect platform to elevate his career and maintain his spot in the England setup.
Squad Reshuffle: Garnacho and Højlund Could Depart
Manchester United are also expected to make room for incoming players by offloading current squad members. Among the most likely to exit is Alejandro Garnacho, who has expressed interest in joining Chelsea. The Argentine winger has already rejected offers from clubs in Germany, Italy, and Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Rasmus Højlund who struggled to maintain form last season has drawn interest from Serie A, with both Lazio and former club Atalanta considering moves. Bayer Leverkusen is also said to be monitoring the Danish forward, who remains a favourite of Erik ten Hag.

As the transfer window intensifies, United are actively exploring multiple market options to fund and finalize deals. A large portion of the current squad is considered negotiable, and internal sources suggest that further outgoings may be used to raise capital or support player-swap arrangements.
