Thomas Partey released on bail after sex offences charges

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, 32, has been released on bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (August 5). The Ghanaian footballer faces six charges five counts of rape and one of sexual assault, allegedly involving three different women between 2021 and 2022.

Trial Set for September at Old Bailey

Partey, who confirmed his identity in court, is due to appear again on September 2 at the Old Bailey, the UK’s most prominent criminal court, which handles serious offences.

The charges follow a Metropolitan Police investigation launched in early 2022. While he was under investigation during his final seasons at Arsenal, formal charges have only now been filed — just days after his contract with Arsenal expired. The club did not renew his deal, ending a four-year spell in North London that began with a £45 million move from Atlético Madrid.

Player Denies All Charges

Partey’s legal team, led by attorney Jenny Wiltshire, said the midfielder “denies all allegations” and “welcomes the opportunity to clarify the facts” at trial. No plea has been formally entered yet.

Impact on Partey’s Football Career

With his legal situation now public and unresolved, Partey’s footballing future remains uncertain. No club has signed him since his departure from Arsenal. A conviction could not only result in significant prison time, but also end his career in professional football.

During his time at Arsenal, Partey was seen as a key player in Mikel Arteta’s squad, though his tenure was marked by frequent injuries and inconsistency. The club has made no official comment on the charges or his exit.
