Chelsea release Sterling, Chilwell and seven other players ahead of 2025/26 season

Nine first-team players removed from club’s official squad list as Chelsea plans post-World Cup celebration at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea has made significant changes to its first-team squad ahead of the 2025/26 season, removing nine players including Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell—from the club’s official website. The move signals a deeper restructuring effort as the Blues returned to pre-season training on Monday , just three weeks after winning the FIFA Club World Cup.

Sterling, a veteran of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal, is still under contract but has struggled to maintain his place under new manager Enzo Maresca. Chilwell, once the team’s captain, has also lost prominence and now faces an uncertain future.

Restructuring Underway as Transfer Activity Continues

In addition to Sterling and Chilwell, seven other players have been delisted, although Chelsea has yet to confirm official exits. The club’s transfer strategy appears focused on streamlining the squad while maintaining competitiveness.

The changes come amid a period of aggressive investment. Chelsea has spent approximately €280 million in recent transfer windows, continuing its ambitious rebuild. Their most recent addition is João Pedro, a standout performer during the Club World Cup campaign.

Stamford Bridge Celebration Set for Wednesday

To commemorate its first-ever Club World Cup title, Chelsea will host a celebration at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday . Tickets have been released to fans, with the event expected to feature key moments from the title run and appearances by club figures.
