Tottenham and West Ham negotiate a swap deal involving Lucas Paquetá and Bissouma

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have opened negotiations over a potential player swap that could see Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquetá move to Spurs in exchange for Yves Bissouma. With the transfer window nearing its close, both London clubs are weighing the high-profile deal.

Spurs target Paquetá in last-minute move

Tottenham, who recently secured Mohammed Kudus and are close to finalizing a deal for Xavi Simons, remain active in the market. Their latest focus is West Ham’s Lucas Paquetá, a long-time target of several European clubs.

Talks reportedly include a direct swap, with Spurs sending 28-year-old Yves Bissouma the other way. The Mali international has been with Tottenham since 2022, making 44 appearances and scoring twice in the 2024/25 season.

Why West Ham could accept the swap

West Ham are open to negotiating Paquetá’s departure if the return package is convincing. With Bissouma’s Premier League experience—first with Brighton and then Spurs—the midfielder could immediately bolster the Hammers’ engine room.

Paquetá, meanwhile, has continued to attract interest from Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Flamengo, though no official bids have materialized beyond Tottenham’s current approach.

Tottenham’s wider transfer ambitions

While pushing for Paquetá, Spurs are also in advanced talks for Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, a move confirmed by Fabrizio Romano despite Chelsea’s interest. Additionally, the club is exploring the possibility of signing Manchester City defender Nathan Aké, aiming to reinforce both midfield and defense before the deadline.

A deal with big implications

Should the swap go through, Tottenham would gain one of the most technically gifted midfielders in Europe, while West Ham would land an experienced, athletic replacement in Bissouma. With the window closing soon, this London rivalry could see one of the most dramatic transfers of the summer.
