Negotiations between Manchester City and Vélez Sarsfield for Maher Carrizo enter decisive phase

Manchester City is in the final stages of negotiations with Vélez Sarsfield to sign Maher Carrizo, one of Argentina’s most promising young forwards. The 19-year-old is being targeted by the Premier League champions in a deal reportedly worth just under €16 million, as the English club accelerates its strategy of investing in elite youth talent.

According to journalist César Luis Merlo, talks between the clubs have progressed significantly, with a formal agreement now appearing imminent. Carrizo, who is under contract with Vélez until December 2026, has impressed scouts across Europe with his technical skill, movement, and finishing ability.

City Move Ahead Despite River Plate Interest

Although domestic powerhouse River Plate has also expressed interest in the striker, Manchester City’s financial muscle and global platform appear to give them a decisive edge in the race. Sources close to the negotiation say the Argentine club is seriously considering the English offer, despite the striker’s estimated market value of €6 million, more than doubling the potential return.

Carrizo’s development has drawn comparisons with recent South American exports who successfully transitioned to Europe, making him one of the most-watched names in Argentina’s youth system.

Youth Recruitment at the Heart of City’s Strategy

The potential signing of Carrizo aligns with Manchester City’s long-term vision of building a sustainable core of high-upside talent. Over recent transfer windows, City has increasingly focused on acquiring players under the age of 21, both for their first team and City Football Group’s broader international network.

Carrizo would join a growing list of young talents scouted and signed before reaching full market maturity a hallmark of City’s modern recruitment model.
