Former Liverpool player Luis Diaz reveals Florian Wirtz helped him sign with Bayern Munich

Former Liverpool forward Luis Díaz has officially joined Bayern Munich, and the Colombian star revealed that German international Florian Wirtz played a key role in convincing him to move to the Bundesliga.

Wirtz’s Influence Helped Seal the Deal

In his unveiling this Thursday (31), Díaz disclosed that during his final weeks at Liverpool, he had several conversations with Florian Wirtz, who shared insights into life in Germany and playing in the Bundesliga.

“Florian told me the Bundesliga is intense and incredibly physical. He also said the stadiums are always packed, and that I would enjoy Munich,” Díaz said during his presentation.

The Colombian forward said Wirtz’s enthusiasm for German football and his praise for Bayern’s structure helped him make the final decision to join the Bundesliga giants.

€75 Million Transfer: Bayern Beats Barcelona and Al-Nassr

Bayern Munich paid €75 million (approx. R$490 million) to secure Luis Díaz, including performance-based bonuses. According to Fabrizio Romano, Díaz signed a four-year contract with the Bavarian club.

The German champions beat out strong competition from Barcelona and Saudi side Al-Nassr, both of whom were reportedly in advanced talks with the player’s camp.

Díaz’s Numbers at Liverpool

Luis Díaz joined Liverpool in the 2021/22 season from FC Porto. In his final campaign at Anfield (2024/25), he played 50 matches, started 38 times, and recorded:

  • 17 goals
  • 5 assists
  • 3,337 minutes played

While injuries briefly hindered his progress in England, Díaz was a consistent attacking threat under Jürgen Klopp and later Arne Slot.

Bayern’s Big Move for the Wing

Díaz’s arrival signals a major offensive investment from Bayern Munich, who are rebuilding under new leadership. The Colombian is expected to feature heavily in the left wing role, complementing a frontline that already includes stars like Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala.

With the Bundesliga set to return in August, Díaz could make his competitive debut during the DFL-Supercup.
