PSG fulfills Luis Enrique’s wish and moves forward with the signing of Illya Zabarnyi

Paris Saint-Germain has made significant progress in signing Illya Zabarnyi from Bournemouth, responding to manager Luis Enrique’s request for defensive reinforcements. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Zabarnyi is PSG’s top target for the center-back role and has already agreed to join the French club.
The Ukrainian international has been on PSG’s radar since the start of the summer transfer window, and negotiations with the Premier League side are now advancing. A deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days.
PSG’s Quiet Start to the Transfer Window
While many European giants have been active, PSG’s transfer activity has been relatively subdued. The club’s primary focus so far has been on retaining key players following a strong 2024/25 campaign. Nonetheless, a few new additions are expected before the window closes.
Luis Enrique has pushed for defensive reinforcements, specifically a new center-back and right-back. Zabarnyi, just 21 years old, fits the profile of a young, high-potential defender capable of adapting to Ligue 1 and the Champions League level.
Rodrygo Off PSG’s Radar
In contrast to its defensive pursuits, PSG has pulled out of the race for Rodrygo, despite long-standing interest in the Brazilian forward. Sources indicate the Real Madrid winger is now more likely to join a Premier League club, with several members of England’s “Big Six” expressing interest.
PSG had previously monitored Rodrygo for two seasons but has now shifted its focus elsewhere in the attack.
€250M Bid for Cole Palmer Rejected by Chelsea
The one offensive player PSG continues to admire is Cole Palmer, the Chelsea attacking midfielder who has enjoyed a breakout season. According to Fichajes, the French champions reportedly submitted a €250 million offer for the 22-year-old. However, Chelsea rejected the proposal, signaling they view Palmer as untouchable this summer.
Palmer’s rapid rise at Stamford Bridge has made him one of the most valuable young players in European football. Despite PSG’s ambition and financial strength, Chelsea appears unwilling to entertain any sale at this stage.
