Xabi Alonso wants more signings and Real Madrid is analyzing the market in case there are departures in the squad

The Spanish coach has already welcomed four new signings but is pushing for more additions to strengthen the squad
Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso is pressing the club’s management for more reinforcements during the current transfer window, as the Spanish giants brace for possible departures in the squad. According to journalist Mario Cortegana, Alonso believes that the current squad still lacks depth in certain key positions despite the arrival of four new signings.
Club scouting for replacements amid transfer rumors
In response to Alonso’s concerns, Real Madrid’s board and scouting department have begun evaluating multiple targets. The club is mapping out profiles for various roles in case players are sold in the coming weeks. Among those potentially on the move is Dani Ceballos, who has drawn interest from other European clubs.
Although negotiations for Ceballos have yet to advance, Alonso reportedly vetoed his departure earlier this summer. The coach values the midfielder’s role in the squad and fears that releasing him without a replacement could leave Madrid vulnerable in midfield.
Midfield remains an area of focus
Despite having a strong core, Real Madrid continues to search for a midfielder capable of dictating tempo, a void left by Luka Modrić’s reduced presence. The coaching staff is particularly interested in bringing in a seasoned European player to fill this strategic gap.
The midfield trio of Aurélien Tchouaméni, Fede Valverde, and Jude Bellingham the latter currently recovering from injury is seen as central to Alonso’s tactical setup. Tchouaméni, in particular, is regarded as a key pillar for both defensive solidity and ball distribution.
Who has joined Real Madrid this summer?
Real Madrid has already added four players to the squad under Alonso’s tenure:
- Trent Alexander-Arnold (from Liverpool)
- Dean Huijsen
- Álvaro Carreras
- Franco Mastantuono (who will join in August after turning 18)
While Mastantuono remains in Argentina for now, Huijsen has impressed during pre-season, including the Club World Cup. Alexander-Arnold is expected to play a crucial role in Alonso’s new tactical approach, while Álvaro awaits his official debut.
