Isak wants to leave Newcastle and prioritizes Liverpool over Barcelona and Al-Hilal

Swedish striker considers Liverpool ideal next step as Newcastle prepares for major transfer decision
Alexander Isak is set to push for a move away from Newcastle United, with his preferred destination being Liverpool, according to multiple sources including transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. While clubs like Barcelona and Al-Hilal have expressed interest, the Swedish striker is reportedly most drawn to a move to Anfield.
Liverpool in Pole Position Despite Competition
Isak sees Liverpool as the right next step in his career and has placed the Premier League side above all other suitors, including the financially powerful Al-Hilal and La Liga giants Barcelona, who are not expected to be in contention before 2026 due to their ongoing financial constraints.
The Merseyside club, under new manager Arne Slot, has already signed Hugo Ekitike, but insiders suggest Isak remains the top striker target. Any move for the Swede, however, would depend on the potential sale of Luis Díaz, whose exit could help free up both budget and space in the squad.
Isak Valued at Over €152 Million
Newcastle reportedly values Isak at over £130 million, which is approximately €152 million. That figure places him among the most expensive forwards on the market, limiting realistic bidders to just a few clubs. Liverpool and Al-Hilal are currently the only two clubs capable of meeting those financial demands.
Should Liverpool fail to strike a deal, Isak may consider Al-Hilal, a move that would likely crush Barcelona’s long-term hopes of signing him in the 2026–27 season.
Newcastle Already Searching for Replacement
Behind the scenes, Newcastle is actively exploring the transfer market for a new center forward, indicating the club is already preparing for Isak’s possible exit. While they remain open to keeping the 25-year-old, the expectation is growing that this summer could mark his departure.
Isak has been one of the most consistent attacking players in the Premier League, with a profile that fits both modern and traditional striker roles. Known for his composure in front of goal, technical versatility, and ability to operate across the front line, he would offer Liverpool a dynamic upgrade.
How Would Liverpool Line Up With Isak?
Should Isak make the move to Anfield, manager Arne Slot could field an elite attacking trio. A potential starting XI could feature: Alisson in goal; Frimpong, Van Dijk, Konaté, and Robertson in defense; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, and Wirtz in midfield; with Gakpo, Salah, and Isak leading the attack.
Liverpool has already spent more than €300 million this summer on reinforcements but remains well within Financial Fair Play limits, thanks to strategic sales and strong revenue streams. The funds for a marquee signing like Isak would be attainable, especially if Díaz departs.
