Napoli surprises by giving up on Chiesa to sign Grealish; Manchester City agrees to sell him

In a major shift on the transfer market, Napoli have decided to drop their pursuit of Federico Chiesa in favor of Manchester City’s Jack Grealish, who is no longer part of manager Pep Guardiola’s plans. The Serie A club is reportedly working to secure the English winger at the request of new head coach Antonio Conte.

According to Football Transfers, Manchester City has made it clear that Grealish is available for transfer this summer, with the club setting a price tag of £40 million (approx. €47 million). The 29-year-old has been released from training and is actively seeking a new destination.

Conte Pushes for Grealish Signing

Napoli’s interest is said to be driven by Conte, who is looking to bolster his attacking options following the signing of Noa Lang. Initially linked with Italy international Federico Chiesa, the club has now pivoted toward Grealish as a more attainable and tactically fitting alternative.

City are open to a permanent sale, but the price is proving a stumbling block. While Napoli are keen to strike a deal, the €47 million asking price is seen as excessive by the Italian side.

Player Wants Starting Role

Despite City’s willingness to sell, Grealish has reservations about a potential move to Naples. Sources close to the player say he is reluctant to accept a role as a substitute and is prioritizing a club where he can be a regular starter.

Grealish is eager to revive his form and regain a place in the England national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Playing time will be a key factor in determining his next destination, his camp has confirmed.

Grealish’s Struggles at City

Last season, Grealish made just 32 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions, contributing three goals and five assists. After arriving from Aston Villa in 2021 as one of the Premier League’s most expensive signings, the winger has struggled to consistently deliver under Guardiola.

Now deemed surplus to requirements, Grealish’s time at the Etihad appears to be nearing an end, with Napoli pushing to offer him a fresh start in Serie A.
