Borussia Dortmund beat Mamelodi Sundowns to claim their first World Cup victory

Borussia Dortmund-GER faced Mamelodi Sundowns-RSA this Saturday in the second round of the Club World Cup group stage . At the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, the German team won 4-3, with goals from Felix Nmecha, Serhou Guirassy, ​​Jobe Bellingham and Khuliso Mudau (own goal). With this result, Borussia Dortmund achieved its first victory in the Club World Cup and took the lead in Group F, with four points. On the other hand, Mamelodi Sundowns is in second place in the group, with three points. Fluminense and Ulsan HD-KOR complete the group and will face each other this Saturday, at 7 pm (Brasília time), at MetLife Stadium, in New Jersey.

The two teams will end their participation in the group stage next Wednesday, at 4 pm. Borussia Dortmund will face Ulsan HD, again at TQL Stadium. While Mamelodi Sundowns will play against Fluminense, at Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami.

Mamelodi Sundowns opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the game. Brazilian Lucas Ribeiro received the ball from Matthew, sprinted down the field, got past two defenders and tapped it past the goalkeeper to score a great goal.

The South African team’s celebration didn’t last long. In the 15th minute, goalkeeper Ronwen Williams handed the ball to Felix Nmecha, who took advantage of the gift and made it all even on the scoreboard. After a poor clearance by Mamelodi Sundowns, Julian Brandt received the ball on the right wing and crossed for Serhou Guirassy, ​​who headed the game back for Borussia Dortmund in the 33rd minute.

Before half-time, in another play on the right wing, Brandt crossed, but Ronwen Williams palmed the ball into the middle of the area. Jobe Bellingham got the rebound, sent it into the back of the net and extended the lead for the Germans in the 44th minute.

In the second half, after a good exchange of passes, Daniel Svensson received the ball on the left wing and crossed. The ball ended up deflecting off right-back Khuliso Mudau, who sent it into his own goal, and scored Borussia Dortmund’s fourth goal in the 13th minute.

In the 16th minute, Teboho Mokoena lifted the ball into the box from a free kick and Iqraam Rayners headed it against the post. The same player took advantage of the rebound and reduced the deficit for Mamelodi Sundowns.

In the final stretch, Kutlwano Lettlhaku stole the ball in the attacking half, took off and passed it to Lebo Mothiba. Faced with goal, the forward made no mistake and scored the third goal for the South African team in the 44th minute.
