Former Red Devil Louis Saha names the Premier League duo who could transform Ruben Amorim’s midfield as Casemiro prepares for Old Trafford exit.
Manchester United’s search for a world-class successor to Casemiro has intensified following the Brazilian’s confirmation that he will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. While several names have been floated, former United striker Louis Saha has urged the club to raid a Premier League rival for “two monsters” capable of anchoring the midfield.
Saha believes Newcastle United duo Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães are the ideal profiles to partner with Kobbie Mainoo.
“United need aggressiveness and someone that will dictate the midfield,” Saha told AceOdds. “I see someone more like Tonali or Guimarães, who are two monsters in midfield. You need that experience, directness, and divisiveness. It’ll be hard to replace Casemiro.”
The Tonali Transfer Drama
The links to Sandro Tonali come at a turbulent time for the Italian international. During the January deadline, reports surfaced that Tonali’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, had “offered” the midfielder to Arsenal a claim Riso later denied.
However, Riso’s recent comments to Tuttosport suggest a summer move is not off the table: “We’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll decide what to do. Newcastle couldn’t let him go now, but we’ll evaluate in the summer.”
The Perfect Partnership for Mainoo
While United have also scouted Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace) and Carlos Baleba (Brighton), Saha argues that youth alone isn’t the answer.
“If you bring in a young player, it’s a disruption,” Saha warned. “If Casemiro goes, I think a combination of Wharton and Guimarães would be great because Guimarães is more of a captain.”
With the INEOS era focusing on proven Premier League talent, a double swoop for Newcastle’s midfield stars would be a massive statement of intent, though the Magpies are expected to demand fees in excess of £150m for the pair.
