After outshining Ruben Amorim’s criticism at Sheffield Wednesday, the 18-year-old’s Norwich City loan hits a devastating roadblock.

Manchester United’s medical department has received a grim update regarding the fitness of academy sensation Harry Amass. After returning to Carrington for assessment this week, it has been revealed that the 18-year-old’s hamstring injury is significantly worse than initially feared, effectively ending his 2025/26 campaign.

Amass had been enjoying a meteoric rise this season. During a stellar first half of the campaign on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, the left-back bagged back-to-back Player of the Month awards (November and December), proving his critics wrong most notably former United boss Ruben Amorim.

The Amorim Friction

Amass’s success in the Championship reportedly became a point of contention behind the scenes at Old Trafford. Before his January sacking, Amorim had publicly questioned the youngster’s readiness for the physical demands of the league.

These comments are understood to have “angered” United’s hierarchy, who view Amass as a future first-team pillar. The club’s decision to move him to Norwich City in January was designed to transition him from a wing-back role to a traditional back four under Philippe Clement.

A “Cruel” Setback at Carrow Road

Just days after his move to Norwich and a promising debut against Coventry City, the “cruel twist of fate” struck during a training session. While initial hopes suggested a late-season return, talkSPORT now confirms the severity of the tear will keep him sidelined until the summer.

The Norwich Plan: A Unique Decision

In an unusual move, United have opted not to cancel the loan agreement with Norwich City. Once Amass completes the intensive phase of his rehab at Carrington, he will return to Norfolk.

United chiefs believe that being embedded in a promotion-chasing first-team environment at Carrow Road even from the sidelines is a more valuable “education” than returning to the Under-21 setup.
