Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada has hailed the club’s “off-pitch transformation” following the release of the second-quarter financial results for fiscal 2026. Despite a dip in commercial revenue, the Red Devils have stormed back into profitability, posting an operating profit of £32.6 million for the first half of the year.
The figures mark a significant milestone in the INEOS era, showing a dramatic recovery from the £3.9m loss recorded during the same period in 2025.
Berrada: Profitability Meets Performance
Speaking on the results, Berrada emphasised that the club’s lean new structure is designed to fuel success on the pitch.
“We are now seeing the positive financial impact of our off-pitch transformation materialise,” Berrada stated. “We continue to take a football-first approach and invest in both our men’s and women’s first teams.”
The CEO’s comments come at a time of renewed optimism at Old Trafford:
- Men’s Team: Currently 4th in the Premier League under Michael Carrick.
- Women’s Team: Sitting 2nd in the WSL and competing in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The £100m Champions League Incentive
The financial report underscores why securing a Top 4 finish is non-negotiable. Internal targets shifted toward Champions League qualification following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim in January.
Qualifying for Europe’s elite competition could net United close to £100 million in prize money and broadcasting rights next season—vital capital needed to balance the £215m spend on summer arrivals like Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
Summer War Chest: Casemiro and Sancho Exits
Berrada’s “football-first” strategy will be further aided by a massive clearing of the wage bill this June. The club is preparing for life after some of its highest earners:
- Casemiro: His £375,000-per-week contract is set to expire.
- Jadon Sancho: His £250,000-per-week deal also reaches its end.
The departure of these veterans will create the “headroom” Berrada mentioned, with United sources confirming that significant investment is planned for a new marquee midfielder this summer to support Carrick’s tactical setup.
