Manchester United have reached a final decision on the future of Andre Onana. According to talkSPORT, the club is set to permanently offload the Cameroonian goalkeeper this summer, regardless of whether Michael Carrick or a new face takes the permanent managerial hot seat.

Onana, who arrived in a high-profile £50m move from Inter Milan in 2023, has seen his stock plummet following a series of high-profile errors that ultimately led to his season-long loan to Trabzonspor last September.

The “Grimsby Horror Show” and the Fall from Grace

The turning point for Onana came in August during a humiliating EFL Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town. A “personal horror show” during that match was the final straw for the then-regime, leading to the emergency signing of Belgian starlet Senne Lammens.

While Onana has found some consistency in Turkey, Trabzonspor reportedly have no plans to make the deal permanent, and United have no intention of reintegrating him. With the club now sitting 4th in the Premier League, the hierarchy is focused on building a squad capable of competing in the Champions League and they have already found their solution in goal.

The Rise of Senne Lammens

The emergence of 23-year-old Senne Lammens has made Onana’s departure a “no-brainer” for the United board. Since his arrival from Royal Antwerp, Lammens has provided the qualities United have lacked for years:

  • Commanding Presence: A calm head in high-pressure matches.
  • Consistency: Zero errors leading to goals since his debut.
  • Shot-Stopping: A string of match-winning saves, including a January “Save of the Month” contender.

A Ruthless Summer Clearance

United are bracing for a financial hit, with reports suggesting they may accept as little as £20m–£30m to facilitate a quick sale. The move is part of a broader “ruthless” strategy to trim the squad and reinvest in key areas:

  • Midfield: Two top-tier signings targeted.
  • Attack: A new striker and left-winger on the radar.
  • Defense: A versatile left-back to support the backline.

With Michael Carrick leading the club to 16 points from a possible 18, the message from Old Trafford is clear: the “football-first” era has no room for underperforming stars, no matter their price tag.
