Casemiro’s Next Move: Man Utd Star Snubs Brazil Return as ‘Project’ for Life After Old Trafford Emerges

Manchester United legend Casemiro has officially ruled out a sentimental return to Brazil this summer, with the midfielder’s “project” set to keep him in elite football following his expected departure from Old Trafford.

The 34-year-old Brazilian international is in the final months of his four-year contract at United. While his time in Manchester has been decorated with two major trophies, the hierarchy at Carrington is prepared for a summer of transition as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to revamp the squad’s engine room.

The Informal Approach from Sao Paulo

Rumors of a return to his boyhood club, Sao Paulo, were put to bed by the Brazilian club’s chief executive, Rui Costa. Speaking on the Arnaldo e Tironi YouTube channel, Costa revealed that an “important player” within the Sao Paulo squad reached out to Casemiro to test the waters.

The reply from the United star was swift and definitive.

“Who wouldn’t like to have Casemiro in their team, right? I would!” Costa admitted. “But he immediately replied saying that his project was not to return to Brazil; his project was to remain in another market.”

No Formal Proposal

Costa was quick to clarify that while the interest was genuine, Sao Paulo never launched a formal bid, citing financial prudence and squad planning as the main hurdles.

“Sao Paulo did not make a proposal for Casemiro. It would not be prudent to do so without a clear picture of our squad,” the CEO explained. “But I could not omit myself from at least understanding whether he saw Sao Paulo as an alternative. That is what we did.”

Where Next for Casemiro?

With Brazil seemingly off the table, speculation is mounting over Casemiro’s “next market.” While Saudi Pro League clubs have long been linked with a move for the five-time Champions League winner, several European sides are also monitoring his situation as a free agent.

For now, Casemiro remains a vital part of Michael Carrick’s plans as United push for Champions League qualification. As a veteran leader in a dressing room that has recently seen the rise of young stars like Kobbie Mainoo and Chido Obi, Casemiro’s final months at the club will be crucial in mentoring the next generation before his high-profile exit in June.
