Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined Atlético Madrid in the pursuit of PSG’s creative spark Lee Kang-in, as the North London club looks to bolster its attack before the January window slams shut.

A Creative Spark for Ange Postecoglou?

According to GiveMeSport, Spurs are closely monitoring the 24-year-old South Korean international. Despite already spending approximately £50 million this month including the £35 million signing of Conor Gallagher from Atlético Madrid Tottenham are keen to add more ingenuity to their offensive ranks.

Lee is viewed as a versatile asset who could thrive in the Premier League. However, they face stiff competition from Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid, who have long admired the midfielder’s vision and technical ability.

Peeling Back the Numbers: Lee’s PSG Struggle

While Lee Kang-in is a fan favorite, his path to the starting XI at the Parc des Princes has been blocked by elite competition. A closer look at his 2025/26 statistics reveals why other clubs are circling:

  • Ligue 1 Starts: Only 11 matches in the current campaign.
  • Champions League: Zero starts this season, primarily used as a late tactical substitute.
  • Goal Contributions: 5 direct involvements (goals and assists) across all competitions.

The data suggests that Lee’s limited output is a direct result of restricted playing time rather than a dip in quality, making him a “market opportunity” for teams willing to offer him a leading role.

Luis Enrique’s Firm Stance

Despite the lack of starts, PSG manager Luis Enrique remains Lee’s biggest advocate. The Spanish coach values the South Korean’s tactical flexibility and has reportedly urged the board to reject all inquiries. PSG has already informed Atlético Madrid that the player is not for sale, a message that has now been relayed to Tottenham officials.

Spurs’ Busy January

Tottenham’s interest in Lee comes amidst a flurry of activity. Alongside Gallagher, the club recently secured Brazilian full-back Souza from Santos and continues to be linked with a shock move for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson. Adding Lee Kang-in would represent a massive statement of intent as Spurs push for a top-four finish.
