Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly making significant progress in their pursuit of Liverpool legend Andrew Robertson, with a January deal now a serious possibility.

According to renowned journalist David Ornstein, the Scottish left-back’s historic nine-year stint at Anfield could be nearing its conclusion. With Robertson’s contract set to expire in June 2026, Spurs are keen to secure his experience immediately to bolster Thomas Frank’s defensive options and avoid a bidding war in the summer.

A Modern Liverpool Icon

Robertson, now 31, has been a cornerstone of the most successful Liverpool era in decades. Since joining from Hull City in 2017, the Scotsman has amassed 363 appearances, securing two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy. While he remains a part of Arne Slot’s rotation, he no longer holds the “untouchable” status he once enjoyed during the club’s 2019 peak.

The relationship between Robertson and the Liverpool board remains excellent, and both parties are reportedly working toward a solution that respects his legacy while benefiting the club’s future financial planning.

The move for Robertson comes during a busy week for the North London club. Tottenham officially announced the signing of 19-year-old Brazilian left-back Souza from Santos on Thursday for a fee of €15 million (£12.6m).

The arrival of the young Brazilian alongside the potential signing of the veteran Robertson suggests a clear strategy from Thomas Frank: pairing a high-potential talent with one of the most experienced leaders in Premier League history. Souza will join fellow countryman Richarlison at the club, though the striker’s own future remains the subject of intense speculation regarding a return to Brazil.

Market Valuation

While Robertson was valued at €80m during his prime, his current market value sits at approximately €12 million (£10m). For Tottenham, this represents a low-risk, high-reward “market opportunity” to add championship-winning experience to a squad hungry for silverware.
