Real Madrid have received a clear request from Xabi Alonso regarding the transfer market, but the club’s response has been firm. The head coach has asked for the signing of Rúben Neves, yet the board are not convinced and are unwilling to move forward with the Portuguese midfielder.
Xabi Alonso Pushes for Rúben Neves
The information was revealed by Paco González on Spanish radio station Cadena SER. According to the report, Alonso sees Neves as a profile that perfectly fits his tactical vision. The 28-year-old midfielder, currently at Al-Hilal, is approaching the final stage of his contract and has recently been offered to Real Madrid through intermediaries.
With his deal nearing its end, Neves could theoretically be available in the January transfer window for a reasonable fee, making him an attractive short-term market opportunity.
“It’s our obligation to stay alert,” Alonso said when asked about potential reinforcements. “We’re happy with the squad, but we must always keep an eye on the market in case specific opportunities arise.”
Real Madrid Board Reject the Idea
Despite the coach’s interest, Real Madrid do not share the same enthusiasm. Club officials reportedly do not rate Rúben Neves as a priority signing and have already dismissed the option once in recent weeks when the player was first proposed.
The internal stance remains unchanged: the club believes the current squad is strong enough and that Alonso has sufficient resources at his disposal.
No January Signings Planned
Everything points toward no arrivals in the winter transfer window. Real Madrid are determined to avoid short-term moves and instead focus their efforts on long-term planning.
The board’s attention is firmly set on June, when the summer transfer window opens. Defensive reinforcements are expected to be the main priority, especially with David Alaba likely to leave and Antonio Rüdiger entering the final phase of his contract.
Spanish Super Cup Takes Priority
While transfer discussions continue behind the scenes, Real Madrid’s immediate focus is on the Spanish Super Cup. The team travels to Saudi Arabia this week, where they will face Atlético de Madrid in the semi-finals.
On the opposite side of the bracket, Barcelona recently active in the transfer market will take on Athletic Bilbao. The semi-finals will be played on Wednesday and Thursday, with a place in the final at stake.
