The 18-year-old La Masia graduate chooses Luis Enrique’s project over Manchester City, leaving Hansi Flick “fuming” in Catalonia.

The rivalry between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona is set for a surprising new chapter. In an unusual move to avoid further diplomatic tension, the French champions have decided to pay €8 million to secure the signing of teenage sensation Dro Fernández—€2 million more than his official €6 million release clause.

Despite being promoted to the first team by Hansi Flick this season, the 18-year-old striker has reportedly grown frustrated with his lack of playing time. With one of the lowest salaries in the squad, his low release clause made him an easy target for Europe’s elite.

The Luis Enrique Factor

While Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund were both monitoring the situation, Dro Fernández made it clear: he wants to work with Luis Enrique.

The Spanish manager, coming off a Champions League title and a Club World Cup final, was the decisive factor. Dro believes Enrique’s track record with young players at PSG offers a clearer path to stardom than staying under Flick’s current rotation at Barça.

The move has not gone down well at the Ciutat Esportiva. According to Sport, Hansi Flick was “extremely angry” after a private conversation with the player. Although Dro was considered a vital part of the club’s long-term future, his decision to force a January move led to an immediate fallout.

Since the verbal agreement with PSG was reached:

  • First Team Exile: Dro has been completely removed from Flick’s matchday squads.
  • Reserve Duty: He has only featured once for the B-team in January, a clear sign that his time in Barcelona is effectively over.

Transfer Details

The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days. By offering more than the clause, PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi aims to foster a more professional relationship with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, moving away from the hostile “clause-triggering” tactics of the past.
