BARCELONA, Spain – The harmony at the Spotify Camp Nou is facing a new challenge as midfielder Marc Casadó is reportedly considering a departure from Barcelona. Despite his significant development under Hansi Flick this season, the 22-year-old is said to be “considering a change of scenery” to secure more consistent playing time.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Marca this Friday, Casadó’s future with the Catalan giants is far from guaranteed. While he has become a reliable rotation piece for Flick, the fierce competition in Barça’s midfield has led the youngster to evaluate his options in the current transfer window.

Atlético Madrid: A Potential Destination?

Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid has emerged as a serious suitor for the midfielder. The Colchoneros are actively searching for reinforcements to bolster their engine room, and Casadó has appeared on their shortlist of strategic targets.

However, Casadó is not the primary choice for Atlético. The Madrid side is currently prioritizing a move for Brazilian midfielder João Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers. But with Wolves currently embroiled in a Premier League relegation battle and reluctant to sell their star man mid-season, Casadó is viewed as the “ideal alternative” should the Gomes deal fall through.

Since Flick’s arrival, Casadó has enjoyed the best form of his career, making 19 appearances across all competitions. Valued at €25 million (£21m), the La Masia graduate is under contract until June 2028, giving Barcelona a strong hand in any potential negotiations.

The dilemma for Barcelona is whether to let go of a homegrown talent who deeply understands the club’s philosophy or to grant the player’s wish for more prominence elsewhere. For Atlético, Casadó represents a more cost-effective and tactically disciplined option compared to the high-priced João Gomes.
