The Estádio da Luz leads in average crowds, while FC Porto boasts the highest occupancy rate in a deeply divided Portuguese top flight.

The first half of the Liga Portugal season has concluded, revealing a stark contrast in fan engagement across the country. Data published by A Bola highlights a “two-speed” league, where traditional giants Benfica and FC Porto continue to pull in massive crowds while smaller clubs struggle to fill their stands.

Benfica: The Attendance Kings SL Benfica remains the undisputed leader in terms of sheer volume. The Estádio da Luz saw an average of 59,434 fans per home game during the first half of the campaign. This impressive turnout is complemented by a solid 87.8% occupancy rate, cementing the Eagles’ position as the most mobilized fanbase in Portugal.

FC Porto: Maximum Efficiency While Benfica leads in numbers, FC Porto holds the title for the league’s best stadium efficiency. Despite playing one fewer home game than their Lisbon rivals, the Dragons recorded an average of 45,912 spectators at the Estádio do Dragão. Crucially, Porto achieved a league-high 91.76% occupancy rate, proving that their stadium remains nearly full regardless of the opponent.

The Great Divide The figures also expose a worrying trend for Portuguese football outside of its major urban centers. Beyond the “Big Three,” attendance numbers drop significantly, creating a visible imbalance in the league’s social and institutional weight.

At the bottom of the attendance table lies Aves SAD. The club recorded an average of just 1,733 spectators per home match—a figure that highlights the immense challenge smaller clubs face in competing for local viewership against the historical giants.
