While Álvaro Arbeloa takes his first steps as Real Madrid’s interim manager, the shadow of Jürgen Klopp continues to loom large over the Santiago Bernabéu.

The legendary German coach, who left an indelible mark at Liverpool, remains the dream appointment for President Florentino Pérez. According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Klopp is open to returning to the dugout if the call comes from the Spanish capital. More importantly, the reports suggest Klopp has already identified two key players he would demand to spearhead his new project: Bruno Guimarães and Nico Williams.

Nico Williams: The Successor to Vinícius Júnior?

One of the most intriguing aspects of Klopp’s reported plan involves the future of Vinícius Júnior. With the Brazilian’s contract expiring in 2027 and no renewal yet in sight, speculation is mounting that Vini could be sold in 2026.

In this scenario, Klopp views Nico Williams as the ideal replacement. The Athletic Bilbao winger, a long-term target for Barcelona, recently signed an extension but remains high on the list of Europe’s elite. So far this season, Nico has recorded 6 goal involvements (3 goals, 3 assists) in 20 La Liga appearances.

To revitalize Madrid’s midfield, Klopp is reportedly eyeing Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães. The German manager is a known admirer of the Brazilian’s “playmaker” style and tireless work rate.

The Stats: Bruno has been in stellar form for the Magpies, with 8 goals and 5 assists in 31 appearances this season.

The Obstacle: Newcastle has no intention of letting their number 39 leave easily and is already working on a contract extension beyond his current 2028 deal.

The Interim Reality and Future Rivals

As these high-level maneuvers happen behind the scenes, Real Madrid remains under the guidance of Álvaro Arbeloa, who makes his professional coaching debut today.

However, the board is not putting all their eggs in one basket. If the Klopp deal fails to materialize, the Merengues are also reportedly monitoring Enzo Maresca, who is available after his recent departure from Chelsea.
