Manchester City agrees details with Inter Milan for Manuel Akanji loan

Swiss defender will move to Serie A with a €2 million loan fee and a conditional €15 million purchase clause.
Manchester City have reached an agreement with Inter Milan for the loan of defender Manuel Akanji, who is no longer part of Pep Guardiola’s plans for the 2025/26 season. According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal includes a €2 million loan fee and a €15 million option to buy, which could become mandatory if specific conditions are met.
Loan Terms and Conditions
The purchase clause will be triggered automatically if Akanji plays at least 50% of Inter’s matches this season and if the Nerazzurri win the Serie A title. The 30-year-old has already accepted the move and will undergo medical examinations before completing his transfer to Italy.
Other Clubs in the Race
Akanji had attracted interest from several European clubs. Tottenham submitted an offer earlier in the window, while AC Milan also made inquiries. In the Premier League, Crystal Palace reportedly proposed a permanent €15 million deal, according to The Sun, but City ultimately preferred Inter’s loan structure.
Akanji’s Recent Seasons
Despite being sidelined this season, Akanji was a regular presence for City in recent years. He played 40 matches last season, starting 35 of them, and recorded one assist in the Champions League against Sparta Prague. In the 2023/24 campaign, he made 48 appearances and scored four goals.
The Swiss international previously played for Borussia Dortmund, FC Basel, and Winterthur, and now prepares for a new challenge in Serie A under Simone Inzaghi.
