Ederson leaves Manchester City as the goalkeeper with most assists in Premier League history

Ederson has officially ended his Manchester City career, joining Turkish giants Fenerbahçe for €14 million (around R$89 million). The 32-year-old departs after nearly eight years in England, leaving behind a legacy as one of the Premier League’s most successful and unique goalkeepers.

The Brazilian arrived from Benfica in 2017 and went on to make 372 appearances under Pep Guardiola, winning 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles and Manchester City’s first-ever Champions League.

Record-breaking goalkeeper

Beyond his titles, Ederson made history in an unusual way for his position. Known for his composure and pinpoint passing, he became the goalkeeper with the most assists in Premier League history, registering seven assists during his time at City.

That tally puts him ahead of Paul Robinson (5), Pepe Reina (4), David Seaman (4) and Alisson (3). His long-range deliveries to attackers became a signature part of Guardiola’s system, turning the goalkeeper into an unexpected playmaker.

National team setback fuels move

While Ederson has been part of the Brazil squad since 2016 and featured in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, he lost his starting spot at Manchester City last season due to injury setbacks and competition. That dip in form also saw him left out of Dorival Júnior’s most recent squad and Carlo Ancelotti’s early selections.

Now at Fenerbahçe, Ederson is determined to secure consistent playing time, rebuild his form, and fight for a return to the Brazilian national team ahead of next year’s major tournaments.
