Bournemouth stun Brighton to draw with Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League

Bournemouth climbed to third place in the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Brighton, joining Arsenal and Liverpool on nine points.

The victory at the Vitality Stadium showcased Andoni Iraola’s ability to rebuild a side weakened over the summer and highlighted the impact of rising stars like Alex Scott and Antoine Semenyo.

Cherries Share the Summit With England’s Elite

With three wins from their first three games, Bournemouth now sit joint-top on points with Arsenal and Liverpool. They trail only on goal difference, and crucially, still have a game in hand on Jürgen Klopp’s side, who travel to Burnley tomorrow.

For a team that finished ninth last season, this strong start suggests Iraola may once again deliver what many considered a near-miracle: keeping the club competitive against much bigger budgets.

Alex Scott Strikes Early, Mitoma Responds, Semenyo Seals It

  • 18th minute – Alex Scott, a £23 million signing from Bristol City in 2023, opened the scoring with a curling left-footed shot from outside the box.
  • 48th minute – Brighton leveled shortly after halftime when Kaoru Mitoma headed home from a Yankuba Minteh cross.
  • 61st minute – Bournemouth restored their lead as Antoine Semenyo converted a penalty after Jan Paul van Hecke fouled Evanilson, following a costly mistake by Lewis Dunk.

Iraola’s Rebuild Already Paying Off

The summer exodus—Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez, and Kepa all departed—left major gaps in Bournemouth’s back line. Yet Iraola has reshaped the squad with balance and resilience, proving again why he is one of the Premier League’s most resourceful managers.

The Spanish coach, once a standout at Rayo Vallecano and Mirandés, is quickly becoming known for punching above his weight in England’s top flight.
