Barcelona focuses on renewals and targets Murilo as its next transfer target

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has outlined the club’s next priorities after the close of the European transfer window. According to Sport, the Catalan giants will concentrate on contract renewals while also monitoring potential reinforcements, including Brazilian defender Murilo, currently at Nottingham Forest.

Renewals: Frenkie de Jong and Eric García on the Agenda

Two key cases are at the top of Deco’s list: Frenkie de Jong and Eric García. Both players are tied to Barcelona until June 30, 2026, meaning they could negotiate pre-contracts with other clubs as early as December if extensions are not agreed.

There is optimism around De Jong, especially after the Dutchman parted ways with his long-time agent Ali Dursun, a move that may help unlock talks. García’s situation is less clear, but the board wants to avoid losing both players on free transfers.

Murilo in Barcelona’s Crosshairs — But Arsenal Also Interested

At the same time, Barcelona is weighing defensive reinforcements. One of the main names under consideration is Murilo, a 21-year-old defender trained at Corinthians and now playing for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, earning him a Brazil national team call-up. However, the Blaugrana will face competition: Arsenal has also been linked with the player, raising the possibility of a transfer tug-of-war.

A Modest Summer Window

Barcelona’s latest transfer campaign was relatively quiet. The club spent €25 million on goalkeeper Joan García and €2.5 million on midfielder Bardagji, while strengthening the attack with the loan arrival of Marcus Rashford.

On the departures list, the most notable was Iñigo Martínez, leaving a gap in central defense that the club has yet to fill. Promoting players from La Masia remains an option, but the potential signing of Murilo would offer a more immediate solution.

Other exits included Ansu Fati, Noah Darvich, Pablo Torre, Pau Victor, Iñaki Peña, Héctor Fort, and several youth prospects some on loan, others permanently transferred.
