Barcelona confirms Thiago Alcântara as Hansi Flick’s new assistant coach

Barcelona has officially announced the return of Thiago Alcântara, this time not as a player but as assistant coach to Hansi Flick. The Spanish-Brazilian, a graduate of La Masia, took part in training this Thursday (11) and begins a new chapter at the club where he started his professional career.

Thiago Alcântara Returns to Barça After Playing Career

The partnership between Flick and Thiago isn’t new. The two worked together at Bayern Munich, where they lifted multiple trophies. According to Cadena Ser, positive impressions from their 2024 collaboration were key to Barcelona’s decision.

Thiago, who retired in 2024 after his last season with Liverpool, will focus on tactical preparation and training design. The club highlighted that he brings “experience and game vision to enrich the squad’s daily work.”

Barcelona Recovers Key Players After FIFA Date

This week also marked the return of several players from international duty: Marcus Rashford, Jules Koundé, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araújo, and Roony Bardghji.

Raphinha and Araújo underwent specific recovery sessions due to the long travel distance before reintegrating with the group.

Injury Concerns: Balde, De Jong, and Gavi in Doubt

Not everything is positive for Barça. Alejandro Balde and Gavi trained separately, while Frenkie de Jong completed speed drills as part of his recovery program. All three remain doubtful for Sunday’s clash against Valencia.

Young Talents Integrated From Barça B

To balance potential absences, Barça has brought in academy players Dro, Toni, and Jofre to train with the first team.

The squad is preparing for Sunday’s match (14), scheduled at 4 pm (Brasília time) at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, since Camp Nou is still awaiting clearance to reopen.
