Tottenham target Ronald Araújo reveals he doesn’t want to leave Barcelona

Uruguayan defender reaffirms his intention to stay, despite interest from top Premier League and Serie A clubs

Ronald Araújo has put an end to ongoing transfer speculation by publicly stating his commitment to Barcelona, despite being linked to Tottenham, Manchester United, Juventus, and AC Milan.

Speaking after Barça’s 5–0 win over Daegu FC on Monday (4), the 26-year-old Uruguayan defender said he has no plans to leave the Catalan club, expressing both loyalty and renewed motivation.

“I’m very happy at Barcelona. I’ll definitely stay,” Araújo told reporters. “They haven’t seen the best Ronald yet that version is coming in the next few years.”

Fighting Back from Injury

Araújo, who suffered a significant injury last season, admitted that the recovery process had impacted his confidence. However, the center-back said he now feels mentally strong and is regaining full physical form.

“Mentally, I have a lot of confidence, but I lost some last year with the injury. This year, I’m very motivated,” he added, standing next to new manager Hansi Flick.

In the preseason friendly against Daegu, Araújo played alongside left-back Gerard Martín, another young talent being evaluated by Flick. Barcelona’s defensive line is currently led by Araújo and Pau Cubarsí, the club’s two highest-valued defenders.

Transfer Interest From England and Italy

Over recent months, several European giants have shown interest in signing Araújo. Tottenham Hotspur, under manager Ange Postecoglou, were reportedly monitoring his situation closely. Manchester United also had his name on their shortlist as they look to reinforce their backline.

In Italy, Juventus and AC Milan were said to be preparing potential bids, but Araújo’s declaration may halt those efforts for now.

Fan Reactions and Coaching Support

Barcelona fans and pundits alike welcomed Araújo’s statement. On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), one fan wrote: “If he truly recovers mentally, it will be a massive boost for our defense.”

Coach Hansi Flick is also believed to fully trust the defender, considering him central to his tactical plans for the upcoming La Liga and Champions League campaigns.
