Real Madrid receives authorization from Xabi Alonso to sell Raúl Asencio

Defender no longer in club’s plans following poor performances and off-field controversies
Real Madrid has received the green light from head coach Xabi Alonso to put defender Raúl Asencio on the transfer market, according to Fichajes. Once viewed as a rising star, the 23-year-old has reportedly fallen out of favor after a string of disappointing performances and off-field controversies.
The club is now actively seeking offers for Asencio, with an expected asking price of approximately €40 million, as part of president Florentino Pérez’s broader objective to raise €200 million through player sales during the summer window.
Poor Form and Controversy Seal Fate
Asencio ended the previous season on a strong note but struggled heavily during the Club World Cup. He made costly errors in the match against PSG, received a red card for an avoidable offense against Toluca, and conceded a penalty in the clash with Al-Hilal. Those on-pitch lapses were followed by disturbing off-field issues, including allegations involving child pornography, which have severely damaged his standing within the club.
Xabi Alonso, recently installed as manager, reportedly approved Asencio’s departure as part of his squad revamp.
No Bids Yet Despite Massive Release Clause
Real Madrid had high hopes for Asencio, having renewed his contract just months ago after a successful stint under Carlo Ancelotti. The new deal runs until 2031 and includes a staggering €1 billion release clause. However, the defender’s market value has since plummeted, and the club has yet to receive any concrete offers.
The premature extension has now complicated the process of finding a buyer, as the deal makes contract termination unlikely without incurring significant financial loss.
Real Madrid Looks to Offload Multiple Players
Asencio is just one of several names on Real Madrid’s transfer list as the club looks to balance its books. Other players such as Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Ceballos, Andriy Lunin, and even Rodrygo have reportedly been marked as potentially expendable, depending on incoming offers.
Although the club has completed its incoming transfers for the window, its outgoings are expected to continue deep into August as the board aims to hit its €200 million sales target.
