Brazilian club eyes experienced playmaker as Richard Rios replacement

Arthur Melo is back on the transfer radar in Brazil. The 29-year-old midfielder, currently out of Juventus’ plans for the 2025/26 season, has emerged as a target for Palmeiras, who have already made formal contact with his representatives.

Out of Juventus’ Future Plans

Arthur spent last season on loan at Girona, where he delivered solid performances in La Liga. However, his form was not enough to convince Massimiliano Allegri’s side or Juventus’ board to keep him in Turin. The club has placed him on the transfer list and is prioritizing a permanent sale before the summer window closes.

Palmeiras’ Interest

According to journalist Diego Firmino, Palmeiras’ board is actively negotiating for Arthur as they search for a direct replacement for Richard Rios. The Brazilian club believes the former Barcelona and Liverpool midfielder could add experience and creativity to their squad for the remainder of the season.

While no official offer has been confirmed, insiders suggest Juventus would not demand a high transfer fee, making the deal financially viable for Palmeiras.

A Possible Return to Brazil

Arthur has previously turned down moves back to Brazil, preferring to remain in Europe. But after a series of short stints without cementing a long-term role, sources indicate the player may now be more open to returning home. Palmeiras hope their current competitive form will help convince him.

If completed, the signing would mark Arthur Melo’s first return to Brazilian football since leaving Grêmio for Barcelona in 2018.
