Ousmane Dembélé sets sights on Ballon d’Or and Champions League glory with PSG

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé has made clear his ambitions for the new season: winning the Champions League with PSG, lifting trophies with France, and eventually securing the Ballon d’Or, which he calls the “Grail” of football.

With less than a month until the Ballon d’Or ceremony on September 22 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the 28-year-old striker is openly aiming for the prestigious award. In a recent interview with Le Monde, Dembélé reaffirmed his hunger for individual and collective success after PSG’s historic 2024/25 campaign.

“We want to be champions”

“We still have immense desire,” Dembélé said. “We have a young group, still hungry for victories. Our ambition is to become champions. And being champions means winning important trophies like the Champions League two or even three times throughout your career.”

The French international, recently included in Didier Deschamps’ squad list, underlined that PSG’s mentality under coach Luis Enrique is to move beyond past achievements and aim even higher this season.

Leadership role at PSG

Dembélé also highlighted his growing leadership within the squad: “Last season’s successes are already history. We need to surpass them to experience another extraordinary season.”

Luis Enrique has reportedly demanded that his players avoid complacency and maintain intensity  a mindset Dembélé has fully embraced. His consistency on the pitch, combined with his ambition, makes him one of PSG’s most decisive figures heading into the 2025/26 season.

France ambitions and the Ballon d’Or dream

The PSG winger’s goals extend beyond club football. “Wearing the national team’s jersey is an indescribable honor,” he said. “We want to take France to the highest places in world football, and to do that we need commitment, talent, and above all, a hunger for victory.”

Dembélé also reiterated that winning the Ballon d’Or remains a personal dream: “It is the Grail for any footballer,” he admitted, hinting that his performances in both domestic and international competitions will be geared toward achieving that milestone.
