Manchester City rejects €33 million loan offer from Roma for Claudio Echeverri

Manchester City have turned down a lucrative loan proposal from AS Roma for promising Argentine midfielder Claudio Echeverri, maintaining full control over the young talent’s future.

The Italian club’s offer reportedly included a mandatory purchase clause of €33 million (approx. R$208.56 million) plus a buyback option for City, but the terms did not meet the English club’s expectations. Despite strong interest, City remains reluctant to part with Echeverri in any deal that limits their control.

Since his arrival from River Plate in January 2025, the 19-year-old has been integrated into Pep Guardiola’s squad, scoring his first goal during the FIFA Club World Cup. However, competition in Manchester City’s midfield restricts his playing time, prompting the club to consider loan options to aid his development.

Reports suggest Girona, a City Football Group affiliate, is a favored loan destination, aligning with City’s strategy to nurture young talents. While Echeverri had reportedly preferred a move to Roma, City’s rejection signals a cautious approach focused on long-term planning.

The midfielder’s future beyond this summer remains open, with City willing to entertain loan offers provided they retain future rights over the player.
