Manchester City reaches agreement to loan Brazilian Vitor Reis to Girona

19-year-old set to gain La Liga experience after limited appearances in England
Manchester City have reached a full agreement to loan Brazilian defender Vitor Reis to Spanish side Girona, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The 19-year-old, who arrived from Palmeiras earlier this year, has struggled for game time in England and is now expected to join Girona to gain regular first-team experience.
Vitor Reis has played just four matches for City since joining in the last European transfer window. Despite high expectations and his reputation as one of Brazil’s top young defenders, he found limited opportunities under Pep Guardiola’s packed squad.
The loan move to Girona, pending medical tests and contract signing, will allow the young center-back to develop in La Liga a competitive environment that City believes will benefit his growth.
City Football Group Connection Facilitates Move
The move was made easier by the fact that both clubs Manchester City and Girona are part of the City Football Group (CFG). Internal alignment within the organization has often allowed for smoother transitions between clubs, particularly for developing talents.
Vitor Reis was promoted to Palmeiras’ first team during the 2024 season and made 22 appearances, scoring twice before his move to Europe. Though Bayer Leverkusen and FC Porto also showed interest in recent weeks, Girona secured the loan deal, likely due to CFG’s influence and the guarantee of top-flight experience.
Girona Looking to Rebound After Disappointing Season
Girona are hoping to bounce back from a difficult 2024/25 campaign, where they finished 16th in La Liga with 41 points just one point above the relegation zone. Reinforcements like Vitor Reis are seen as essential to stabilizing the defense and improving results.
More Moves Expected at Manchester City
Vitor Reis may not be the only player leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer. Reports suggest that Jack Grealish is also open to a move, with Everton emerging as a possible destination. The English winger has reportedly given the green light for negotiations, signaling a potential end to his high-profile stint at City.
