Cristiano Ronaldo scores 100th goal for Al-Nassr, but club loses to Al-Ahli in Super Cup final

Cristiano Ronaldo reached a historic milestone with his 100th goal for Al-Nassr, but the Riyadh club extended its trophy drought after losing the Saudi Super Cup final to Al-Ahli on penalties.
Al-Ahli crowned champions in Hong Kong
The final, played this Saturday in Hong Kong, ended 2-2 in regular time before Al-Ahli prevailed 5-3 in the penalty shootout. Franck Kessié and Brazilian Roger Ibañez scored for the Jeddah side, while Ronaldo and Marcelo Brozović had put Al-Nassr ahead twice during the match.
In the decisive spot-kicks, Edouard Mendy denied Al-Khaibari, and Brazilian winger Galeno converted the winner, sealing Al-Ahli’s triumph.
Ronaldo hits milestone, but drought continues
At 40 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo remains the centerpiece of Al-Nassr’s attack. His first-half penalty not only gave his team the lead but also marked his 100th goal for the club, an achievement that highlights his consistency since arriving in Saudi Arabia.
Despite the personal record, the Portuguese star has lifted just one trophy with the Riyadh-based team: the 2023 Arab Champions League. For a player who has amassed 34 career titles, including international glory with Portugal, the lack of silverware at club level has been a growing source of frustration.
Uncertain future for the Portuguese legend
Ronaldo, who last celebrated a major title with Portugal in the Nations League final against Spain in June 2024, has openly expressed dissatisfaction with Al-Nassr’s struggles. Earlier this year, he even considered leaving the club but was convinced to stay after promises of reinforcements such as Kingsley Coman, João Félix, and Iñigo Martínez.
Still, the latest setback raises new questions about whether the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will continue chasing trophies in Saudi Arabia or seek one last challenge elsewhere.
