Barcelona needs to register five players in La Liga: Rashford, Szczesny, Joan García, Gerard Martín and Bardghji

Rashford, Szczesny, Joan García, Gerard Martín, and Bardghji remain unregistered due to Financial Fair Play restrictions

With just days to go before their La Liga opener on August 16, FC Barcelona is facing a critical challenge: registering five key players with the Spanish top flight. According to Mundo Deportivo, the club must complete the registration process for Marcus Rashford, Wojciech Szczesny, Joan García, Gerard Martín, and Roony Bardghji, or risk being unable to field them at the start of the season.

New Signings and Renewals Await Registration

Among the five, Rashford, García, and Bardghji are new arrivals this transfer window and have yet to be registered. Meanwhile, Szczesny and Gerard Martín require re-registration following contract renewals.

The delay stems from La Liga’s strict Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, which currently prevent Barcelona from exceeding salary limits tied to club revenue. The club’s wage bill remains higher than its income, creating a bottleneck for player registration.

Barcelona’s Plan: Sell to Register

Sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta are reportedly working behind the scenes to clear salary space in time. Barcelona hopes to avoid a repeat of past issues  like with Dani Olmo, who was sidelined at the beginning of the season due to FFP constraints.

Among the potential outgoing players is Marc Casadò, who has been listed for sale. Atlético Madrid has shown interest in the 20-year-old Spanish midfielder. Another name considered is Fermín López, a La Masia product currently attracting attention from Manchester City, at the request of Pep Guardiola. However, the 21-year-old is reportedly reluctant to leave, and new manager Hansi Flick is keen to keep him.

Ronald Araújo Commits to Stay

One player who will not be part of the exodus is Ronald Araújo. The Uruguayan center-back has confirmed his intention to stay at Camp Nou despite speculation.

“I’m very happy at Barcelona. They haven’t seen the best Ronald yet, and he’s the one who will arrive in the next few years,” he said.

Araújo came under heavy criticism last season, especially after a poor performance against Inter Milan, but is determined to bounce back under Flick’s leadership.
