Vinicius Júnior Planning to Leave Real Madrid for Free, Says Spanish Journalist

Star forward reportedly wants to fulfill his contract and walk away as a free agent in 2027

A new saga is brewing in Madrid. According to journalist Fernando Burgos of Spanish radio station Onda Cero, Vinicius Júnior is planning to leave Real Madrid for free once his contract expires in June 2027.

“Until a month ago, Real Madrid was confident Vinicius would renew his contract, but he broke the agreement. He wants to be a free agent,” Burgos revealed on air.

If the Brazilian carries out his alleged plan, the club risks losing one of its biggest stars without receiving a single euro in transfer fees.

Dispute over salary parity with Mbappé

Sources suggest that Vinicius feels underappreciated at the club, especially after Kylian Mbappé’s high-profile arrival on a mega-contract. The Brazilian reportedly expected a similar salary package around €30 million (R$195 million) per season but Real Madrid’s board has so far refused to meet those demands.

This growing tension may have influenced Vinicius’ decision to see out his current deal and leave the club on his own terms.

Meeting with Florentino Pérez on the horizon

A decisive meeting is reportedly scheduled between Florentino Pérez and Vinicius Júnior’s representatives to discuss the situation. Real Madrid’s plan is to resolve any uncertainties before the 2026–27 season ends, to avoid the risk of losing their number 7 for free.

Should negotiations stall and no agreement be reached, Real Madrid may be forced to sell the player before his contract runs out, ensuring they receive a fee rather than letting him walk away as a free agent.

Vinicius’ rising importance

Since joining from Flamengo, Vinicius has become one of Real Madrid’s most decisive players, especially in the UEFA Champions League. He was instrumental in the club’s recent European title and has grown into a global superstar both on and off the pitch.

However, his value to the club contrasts with the contract terms, and the winger appears determined to take control of his future.
