Olympique de Marseille Beat Liverpool in Race to Sign Igor Paixão from Feyenoord

Olympique de Marseille have moved ahead of major European clubs including Liverpool to finalize the signing of Brazilian forward Igor Paixão from Feyenoord, according to reports published Saturday by GE journalist Cahê Mota.
The Ligue 1 side is on the verge of sealing a deal for the 25-year-old after a breakthrough season in Dutch football, in which Paixão registered 18 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.
Deal Reaches Final Stages
Negotiations between Marseille and Feyenoord are reportedly in the final stages. The two clubs have agreed on a €30 million fixed fee, with an additional €5 million in performance-related add-ons — bringing the total potential transfer value to €35 million.
The only remaining hurdle is the structure of the payment, including how many installments the French club will use or whether a portion will be paid upfront.
Marseille Targeted Paixão as Henrique’s Replacement
Marseille view Paixão as a direct replacement for Luis Henrique, who was recently sold to Inter Milan. The club is prioritizing Brazilian flair in attack and believes Paixão fits well into the tactical plans for the upcoming Ligue 1 and European campaigns.
Despite interest from Liverpool, Barcelona, AC Milan, Roma, and Leeds United, many suitors reportedly cooled their pursuit after Paixão sustained an injury earlier this year. Marseille, however, maintained their interest and are now close to securing the deal.
Breakout Season in the Eredivisie
Paixão, who was pre-called up by Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti for the national team earlier this year, had a standout season for Feyenoord. In 47 appearances, he directly contributed to 32 goals, helping the Dutch side capture the Johan Cruijff Shield, the national Super Cup.
His consistent form and versatility in the attacking third made him one of the most sought-after Brazilians in European football during this transfer window.
