Official: Bayern Munich sign Luis Díaz for €75 million from Liverpool

Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Luis Díaz from Liverpool in a deal worth €75 million, including performance-related bonuses. The Colombian winger will sign a four-year contract with the German champions, keeping him at the Allianz Arena until June 2029.

The agreement was confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reported that the 28-year-old will travel to Germany on Monday, July 28, to finalize the transfer and undergo a medical.

Díaz Ends Premier League Spell After Standout Season

Díaz departs Anfield after two and a half seasons in which he played 148 matches, scored 41 goals, and delivered 23 assists across all competitions. He was instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League-winning campaign last season and became a fan favorite with his dynamic play on the wing.

Signed from Porto in 2022, the Colombian quickly adapted to English football. His Liverpool contract was originally set to run until 2027, but his desire for a new challenge weighed heavily in the final stages of negotiations.

Liverpool initially rejected Bayern’s opening bid of €67.5 million, but the two clubs eventually reached a compromise at €75 million, equivalent to R$490 million at the current exchange rate.

Arne Slot Confirms Transfer-Related Absence

Díaz was notably absent from Liverpool’s recent 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in a preseason friendly in Hong Kong. Manager Arne Slot confirmed the decision not to play him was due to the ongoing transfer talks. “We’ve decided, for now, not to put him on the field,” Slot told reporters following the match.

Díaz to Play Key Role Under Kompany

At Bayern Munich, Díaz will become a central figure in Vincent Kompany’s attacking system, likely partnering Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane in a revamped front three. The Bundesliga champions are entering a new era following the departure of Thomas Tuchel and are investing heavily in building a competitive squad for both domestic and European competitions.

Liverpool Face Replacement Challenge

Díaz’s departure represents one of the club’s most lucrative exits in recent years. Liverpool are expected to return to the transfer market in search of a replacement, especially as other forwards like Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez continue to attract interest from abroad.
