Newcastle Prefers Barcelona Deal for Isak, Halting Liverpool’s Pursuit

Magpies prioritize Spanish suitor despite Reds’ strong interest in top scorer

Newcastle United have decided not to sell star striker Alexander Isak to Premier League rival Liverpool, instead prioritizing a potential transfer to Barcelona, according to Transfer Feed.

The 24-year-old Swede is coming off a sensational season, having scored 27 goals and delivered six assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. His performances have attracted attention from Europe’s elite clubs, most notably Liverpool and Barcelona.

Newcastle Rule Out Premier League Sale

Despite Liverpool’s desire to bring Isak to Anfield, Newcastle are reportedly unwilling to strengthen a direct domestic competitor. Instead, the Tyneside club is open to negotiating with Barcelona even if it means accepting a lower transfer fee.

Newcastle’s decision aligns with their long-term strategy of limiting player movement within the Premier League while still complying with financial sustainability rules.

Isak’s Rising Star

After initial struggles at Borussia Dortmund, Isak revived his career at Real Sociedad before joining Newcastle. Over three seasons in England, he has contributed 68 direct goal involvements in just 109 games, solidifying his reputation as a clinical and dynamic forward.

  • 2024/25 season: 42 games, 27 goals, 6 assists
  • Total for Newcastle: 67 games, 35 goals, 5 assists before this season

These numbers have made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe this summer.

Liverpool’s Plan B? Vinicius Júnior

Liverpool are expected to stay aggressive in the market. With Isak potentially off the table, the Reds have turned their attention to Real Madrid’s Vinicius Júnior, who has yet to sign a contract extension.

Madrid, however, have set a hefty €150 million asking price for the Brazilian star a fee that may complicate Liverpool’s plans under new coach Arne Slot.
