Manchester United open talks to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa

Red Devils target prolific striker to solve goal-scoring issues

Manchester United has officially opened negotiations to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa, aiming to reinforce their attack with one of the Premier League’s most consistent forwards. The move comes just days after the club secured Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

€60 Million Fee on the Table

According to the portal Transfer Feed, discussions are underway between the two English clubs. Aston Villa is demanding around €60 million for the 29-year-old striker, who remains under contract until mid-2028. The price tag reflects Watkins’ impact over the past two seasons and the club’s reluctance to lose a key player.

Watkins’ Strong Form Boosts His Value

Watkins had a standout 2024/25 campaign, appearing in 54 matches, scoring 17 goals, and providing 14 assists. These numbers follow a career-best 2023/24 season, where he netted 27 goals and delivered 13 assists, amounting to 40 goal contributions in 53 games.

The striker is also a regular with the England national team, having earned 18 caps and scored five goals. He featured at Euro 2024, contributing one goal in three appearances.

Man United Reshaping Their Attack

The signing of Watkins would further Manchester United’s attempt to rebuild their front line under their current leadership. While a move for Gyökeres was once considered, the Swedish forward has now joined Arsenal, shifting United’s focus to the Aston Villa frontman.

Dibu Martínez Also on United’s Radar

In addition to Watkins, United is also exploring a move for goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, another crucial member of Unai Emery’s squad. The Argentine shot-stopper could cost the Red Devils around €47 million, further increasing their potential outlay this transfer window.
