Manchester City’s Vitor Reis sparks interest from Porto and Bayer Leverkusen with a possible call-up to Brazil

Premier League club considers loan for young defender amid lack of minutes

Manchester City defender Vitor Reis has received formal loan offers from FC Porto and Bayer Leverkusen, as the 19-year-old looks for more playing time and hopes to boost his chances of a future call-up to the Brazilian national team.

According to Brazilian journalist André Hernan, City is open to the idea of loaning the defender, who arrived at the club in January 2025, but is not considering a permanent transfer at this stage. Pep Guardiola remains confident in the player’s long-term potential, and the club views a loan as a strategic step for his development.

City undecided but leaning toward loan

Despite having played only a handful of minutes since his arrival at the Etihad, Reis remains part of Guardiola’s future plans. With strong competition for starting spots in Manchester City’s defensive line, the teenager may be temporarily moved to another club to gain consistent first-team experience.

“A loan is seen as the most likely outcome, not a sale,” Hernan reported, noting that the interest from top European clubs reflects Reis’s high ceiling.

Girona talks stalled, new suitors emerge

Reis was previously in advanced discussions with Girona, another City Football Group club known for developing young players. However, those talks appear to have stalled, opening the door for Porto and Leverkusen to make their moves.

Both clubs offer the promise of top-tier European football and more regular minutes, making them attractive destinations for the defender.

Competition and Brazil ambitions

Vitor Reis’s debut season with the English champions was always expected to be transitional, given his age and lack of senior experience. The club views his limited playing time as part of a long-term development plan.

Still, the defender is eager to prove himself and gain the exposure necessary to earn a Brazil national team call-up, especially with the national side increasingly scouting talent from European leagues.

Other young talents could follow

Reis isn’t the only young player on Manchester City’s radar for possible transfers this summer. Claudio Echeverri, a South American midfield prodigy, is reportedly close to joining AS Roma. Meanwhile, James McAtee continues to draw interest, with Nottingham Forest having a recent bid rejected.

Jack Grealish has also attracted inquiries from Tottenham, though his future remains unresolved.
