Manchester City Targets Diogo Costa as Ederson Nears Exit; Porto Demands €65M

Portuguese goalkeeper emerges as top priority as City prepares for post-Ederson era

Manchester City is preparing for a future without Ederson, and the reigning English champions have set their sights on FC Porto’s Diogo Costa as the preferred replacement. The Portuguese shot-stopper is now City’s main transfer target for the summer window, according to CNN Portugal.

FC Porto has reportedly informed City that Diogo Costa will only be released for a fixed fee of €65 million, plus an additional €10 million in performance-based bonuses bringing the potential deal total to €75 million.

PSG also in the race for Diogo Costa

City is not alone in the race for Costa. Paris Saint-Germain, which recently backed away from pursuing Vinícius Jr., is also monitoring the 24-year-old goalkeeper. Despite the competition, City remains the frontrunner due to its immediate need to replace Ederson.

Pep Guardiola and the club’s sporting directors have yet to make a final decision but are fully aware of Porto’s valuation and terms.

Ederson likely heading to Galatasaray

Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson appears poised to leave Manchester City, with Turkish giants Galatasaray emerging as his likely destination. Reports from England suggest the 31-year-old has already expressed his desire to depart, despite having a contract that runs until the end of the current season.

Galatasaray is reportedly preparing an offer worth €3.4 million for Ederson a relatively low fee, given City’s willingness to facilitate his departure after seven highly successful seasons.

Since joining in 2017, Ederson has won every major title with Manchester City, including the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. His standout moment came in the 2023 Champions League final win over Inter Milan.

City eyes Chelsea’s Cole Palmer in parallel deal

In a separate move, Manchester City is also attempting to bring back Cole Palmer from Chelsea. According to Somos Fanáticos, City has submitted a bid close to €153 million, but the London club has yet to respond.

While Palmer remains open to both possibilities, Chelsea is expected to reject City’s mega-offer, especially given the rivalry and Palmer’s growing importance in their squad.
