Premier League champions aim to sign Italian as Ederson’s replacement

Manchester City has emerged as the front-runner in the race to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper whose future remains uncertain. The 25-year-old Italian, considered one of Europe’s top shot-stoppers, is under contract with PSG until June 2026.

City Move Ahead of Bayern and Chelsea

According to a report from Fichajes, City has already begun formal negotiations to bring Donnarumma to the Etihad Stadium. The move comes as part of Pep Guardiola’s plan to replace Ederson, who is expected to depart this summer.

Other European giants such as Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation closely. Chelsea is in the market for a successor to Robert Sánchez, while Bayern seeks a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer, whose career is entering its final stages. However, only City can currently offer an immediate starting role.

PSG Faces Contract Dilemma

Despite Donnarumma’s strong season under Luis Enrique playing 47 matches and conceding 43 goals his position in Paris is far from secure. PSG hopes to renew his contract but has struggled to make progress in talks, putting the club at risk of losing him on a free transfer in 2026.

The French champions now face a critical decision: sell the player this summer or gamble on contract renewal later in the season. Either way, the pressure is mounting.

Grealish Exit Also on the Cards

As Donnarumma edges closer to a Premier League move, Manchester City’s squad could also see some outgoings. Reports suggest that Jack Grealish, who has fallen out of favor under Guardiola, may be transferred to Napoli ahead of the new campaign.
