VfB Stuttgart beats Augsburg in the penultimate round of the Bundesliga
VfB Stuttgart had been empty-handed at home for six consecutive matches. This streak ended in the match against FC Augsburg thanks to Karazor, Woltemade, Millot, and Demirovic. Meanwhile, they had to complain about injury problems.

Even though, purely from a sporting perspective, the duel with FC Augsburg didn’t involve much for an overall disappointing VfB Stuttgart (runners-up a year ago), coach Sebastian Hoeneß made it clear after the 1-0 win against FC St. Pauli : “The goal is to put in a good performance and, of course, end this unspeakable run.” The background: The Swabians had recently lost six consecutive home games.
With an unchanged starting eleven, the hosts immediately started well and with an attacking urge. Coach Jess Thorup saw his starting eleven, which had only been adjusted in one position after the 1:3 defeat against Holstein Kiel (Gumny for the injured Wolf), was under a lot of pressure early on.
Karazor’s Dusting and Eating Boarding
Leweling thundered a direct shot onto the crossbar in the 3rd minute, before a flexible VfB team scored the deserved 1-0 five minutes later. Chabot extended a cross to the left of the goal to Leweling, whose direct shot was denied by a good save from FCA keeper Dahmen. Karazor, however, was lurking in the right spot and tapped in the rebound with his left foot from close range to make it 1-0.
The match continued with a disservice from Essende, who injures Stiller’s calf during a duel. After VAR intervention, the striker, initially booked with a yellow card, was shown a straight red card (12th minute), while Stiller, bandaged, limped off the field in tears .
Bundesliga transfer record and chances on both sides
A particularly bitter blow from Hoeneß’s perspective: The Stuttgart coach had to substitute Stiller’s replacement Keitel due to injury throughout the entire first half, as did Jeltsch. The Swabians thus set a new Bundesliga record with three such early substitutions, previously held by Holstein Kiel .
From a sporting perspective, this duel between the two Swabian clubs also had something to offer, not least because the visitors from Bavaria put up a brave performance despite being outnumbered. Gumny, for example, had a decent header opportunity (30th minute), while Zesiger also missed (38th minute), and Claude-Maurice only found the side netting from a very tight angle (39th minute). In between, however, VfB, who had been lacking in attack for a long time, also had opportunities with Woltemade (35th minute) and substitute Millot, who forced Dahmen into a save with a dangerous low shot (36th minute).
Woltemade makes everything clear
In the second half, Woltemade’s time came again, continuing his already strong second half with several goals. He scored his eleventh goal of the season after receiving a short pass from Millot, with his back to goal, and fired neatly into the left corner on the turn. Augsburg goalkeeper Dahmen stretched in vain (51′). However, the FCA keeper later prevented a 3-0 lead from Stenzel (59′).
With plenty of time remaining, Dahmen ultimately had to admit defeat – twice more. Millot coolly converted after an unfortunate pass from opponent Tietz to make it 3-0 (80th minute), before substitute Demirovic headed in a great Führich cross to make it 4-0, but out of respect, he held back his celebrations. And so, after six consecutive defeats, Stuttgart’s home misery ended with a decisive 4-0 victory.
