Sheffield United beats Bristol City and is in the Championship playoff final

Sheffield, England – In a stunning display of strength, Sheffield United secured their place in the Championship play-off final by defeating Bristol City 3-0 on Monday. A 41st-minute header from Kieffer Moore and another from Gus Hamer just after half-time sealed the victory. To top it off, Callum O’Hare scored a simple late goal to cement Sheffield’s dominance in a 6-0 aggregate triumph, following last week’s 3-0 win at Ashton Gate.

Now Sheffield await the winner of the second semi-final betweenSunderlandand Coventry, which takes place on Tuesday. Sunderland are favourites to face Sheffield in the final at Wembley on May 25 after winning the first leg 2-1 in Coventry last Friday. Sheffield United, who were relegated from the Premier League a year ago, are keen to return to the top flight, as are Sunderland, who have not played in the top flight since 2017. Coventry, meanwhile, have been out of the top flight since 2001.

Returning to the Premier League means a significant revenue boost for promoted clubs, estimated at around $180 million in match-day, broadcast and commercial revenue, and even more if they manage to stay in the division for a season. The play-off winner will join Leeds andBurnleyin replacing the relegated teams Southampton,Leicester Cityand Ipswich.
