Even though it was already eliminated from the Copa Libertadores , Argentina’s Talleres defeated Peru’s Alianza Lima 2-0 on Thursday night (15) at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium in Córdoba, and achieved its first victory in the competition. The result was great for the Paraguayan team Libertad, which secured its place in the round of 16 with one round to spare, as did São Paulo , leader of Group D.
Talleres’ two goals were scored in the first half, by Rubén Botta in the 22nd minute and Depietri in the 37th. With this result, the Argentines moved from bottom of the group to third place, with four points, tied with the Peruvians. The two teams will decide who will be in the next phase of the Copa Sudamericana, where they will fight for a place in the round of 16 against a second-place team from one of the competition’s groups, to be determined by a draw.

Likewise, São Paulo (11 points) and Libertad (eight) are only competing for first and second place in the group. In the final round of the group, to be played with two simultaneous games on the 27th, Tricolor Paulista will host Talleres at Morumbis, needing only a draw to secure first place. Libertad will face Alianza Lima at the Tigo La Huerta stadium in Asunción, Paraguay.
