Dramatic week for the historic Stade de Reims: Coupe lost to PSG and relegated to Ligue 2

Adramatic week for the historic Stade de Reims. After losing the Coupe de France final on the 24th against PSG (3-0), this Thursday they confirmed their relegation to Ligue 2… at the expense of Metz. They lost the Play-Off (1-1 in the first leg, 1-3 in the second leg) in extra time, confirming their terrible season. Metz is promoted.

The Stade de Reims of the legendary Raymond Kopa, who played (and lost) two of the first four European Cup finals against Real Madrid, has confirmed the setback. Six-time French League champions (the last time, however, in 1962), they return to a Ligue 2 they had left behind in 2018. In 2019, they finished sixth and qualified for the Europa League, from which they were eliminated in the qualifying round.

Metz , who equalised Tia’s 1-0 lead in the 78th minute through Udol to force extra time, took the Play Out with goals from Touré and Hein in four minutes (110′ and 114′) to confirm their promotion alongside Lorient and Paris FC.
