Cruzeiro beats Vila Nova and qualifies for the next stage in the Brazilian Cup
With two goals from Eduardo, Raposa advances to the round of 16; Tigre is eliminated with a 5-0 aggregate score

The vacancy is heavenly!
Cruzeiro easily advanced to the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. The tournament’s biggest winner with six titles, Raposa eliminated Vila Nova on Thursday night with yet another victory, this time by 3-0 – they had already won the first leg by 2-0. Eduardo, twice, and Jonathan Jesus scored the goals at the Serra Dourada stadium in Goiânia, securing a 5-0 aggregate score.
What’s next
Having qualified, Cruzeiro awaits the draw by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to find out its opponent in the round of 16. Vila Nova, in turn, says goodbye to the Copa do Brasil and now only has the Série B of the Brazilian Championship until the end of the season.
First half
Vila started the game looking to gain more momentum, as they needed to make up for the deficit. William Formiga sent a shot wide from outside the area. Matheus Pereira responded with a weak shot, but Tigre soon regained control and threatened with shots from Gabriel Poveda and a header from Bernardo. Guilherme Parede also tried a well-placed shot, but sent it wide. Exploring counterattacks, Cruzeiro threatened with moves from Kaio Jorge and Matheus Pereira, forcing Halls to make good saves.
Final stage
After the break, Cruzeiro took off, and Vila collapsed. Eduardo opened the scoring after just 10 minutes with a shot that deflected off the defense and beat goalkeeper Halls. Eduardo also extended the lead in the 29th minute after a header from Bolasie. Already practically knocked out, Tigre was unable to balance the match. In the end, in the 40th minute, Jonathan Jejus scored the third goal for the Celeste team, who qualified with authority at Serra Dourada.
