Aston Villa is defeated by Man United and loses its place in the Champions League
Diallo and Eriksen scored at Old Trafford to close out the 24/25 Premier League season

CLOSING WITH VICTORY
Manchester United no longer have any ambitions in the 24/25 season, but they managed to end the Premier League with a big win in the last round. At Old Trafford, Rúben Amorim’s team defeated Aston Villa 2-0 on Sunday, and eliminated their opponents from the next Champions League. Dibu Martínez was sent off in the first half, and Diallo and Eriksen scored for United. The home team bid farewell to the competition in 15th place, with 42 points, while Villa are sixth, with 66.
GOODBYE TO CHAMPIONS
This Sunday’s match was decisive for Aston Villa. The team went into the game in sixth place and with the same 66 points as Newcastle and Chelsea. Just below, with 65, was Nottingham.
Villa needed to win to enter the top five and guarantee a place in the next edition of the Champions League. Their rivals in this fight stumbled, but Aston failed to fulfill their role and are out of Europe’s biggest competition. Emery’s team will play in the Europa League next season.
HOW WAS THE GAME?
Manchester United and Aston Villa were heading into the break with a calm first half: a draw with some dangerous chances for both sides and a slight superiority for the home side. However, in injury time, Cash passed a poisonous ball back to Dibu Martínez. Höjlund accelerated to steal the ball, and the goalkeeper was forced to come out of his goal and commit the foul. Red for Martínez for being the last man for Villa, and yellow for Diallo for complaining.
The goals only came in the second half. In the 30th minute, Bruno Fernandes crossed the ball into the box, just right for Diallo to come from behind and head it into the back of the net. Eleven minutes later, the number 16 was brought down by Maatsen inside the box, and the referee awarded a penalty in favor of Manchester United. Eriksen took the shot and extended the lead for the home team.
